WALNUT CREEK, CA – If the thought of filing taxes makes your head spin, here’s good news – free help is available for middle- and low-income residents of Walnut Creek.
The United Way Bay Area partners with IRS-certified volunteers to provide the service.
“We are pleased to offer free, secure and high-quality tax preparation services to eligible Bay Area residents as part of our anti-poverty programs,” said Kevin Zwick, CEO. of United Way Bay Area. “It’s important that taxpayers get every tax refund dollar they are owed. Thanks to the hard work of our trained volunteers, low-income Bay Area residents can take full advantage of tax refund credits. such as federal and California income tax, tax credit and child tax credit.”
Since 2003, volunteers have helped secure nearly $1 billion in reimbursements for Bay Area households.
Even if you don’t typically file taxes, it’s important to do so now because of employee benefit programs.
There are 70 tax sites for in-person tax preparation and filing in the Bay Area. Start with this checklist of what you need to file your tax return.
Residents of Walnut Creek can travel south to Pleasanton, north to Bay Point or Pittsburgh, or west to Berkeley or Oakland to receive in-person assistance.
