Those who have already filed the Income Tax Return (RTI) for the 2021-22 tax year (AY22) or have compiled information to submit it already know what Form 26AS is. Note that the deadline to file the RTI for AY22 is December 31, 2021.

The crucial Form 26as income tax return document shows various details such as tax deducted or paid on taxpayer income from various sources. It is essentially a statement of tax credit of the assessed which includes tax withheld at source (TDS), tax collected at source (TCS), withholding tax or tax. self-assessment paid, ordinary tax, tax refund received, details of an assessment year, etc. The scope of Form 26as has been broadened to include more details such as overseas remittances, mutual fund purchases, dividends, details of repayments, etc.

RTI’s new filing website launched by www. Incometax.gov.in launched by the Income Tax (IT) Department on June 7, 2021 has also made it easier to download Form 26AS.

How to download Form 26AS for AY22:

  1. Log on to the new official income tax website – Incometax.gov.in;
  2. Click on the “Login” option at the top right of the home page;
  3. After logging in, go to the ‘e-file’ menu and click on the ‘View Form 26 AS (Tax Credit)’ link;
  4. Read the disclaimer carefully and click on the “Confirm” button;
  5. After clicking on the “Confirm” button of the disclaimer, you will be redirected to the TDS-CPC website;
  6. On the TDS-CPC website, accept the acceptance of the Uses and click on the “Continue” option;
  7. Click on the option “Show tax credit (form 26AS)”;
  8. Select the year of assessment;
  9. Select “Display type” (HTML, text or PDF);
  10. Click on “View / Download”; and
  11. Your Form 26AS will appear on the computer screen or on the cell phone screen.
  12. Download and save Form 26 AS for future use

To download the 26AS form in PDF format, you can export the tax credit statement in PDF format, view it in HTML format> click on “Export in PDF format”.
